Introducing Sean Makes Stuff
Let's make a monster
My name is Sean Howard and I like martial arts, role playing arts, video, and drawing arts. If I were to describe my art passions I would have to say, awesome fight animations and spooky suspenseful animations. With all that said though I think comedy is possible and almost necessary in all of these, after all we make art for humans and humans laugh as much as they feel any other emotion. And if all of this is done well it can bring an exciting and intimidating story to life, and just like fairy tales show you how you can beat your monsters.
My name is Sean Howard but that is possibly the smallest part of my identity. The bigger parts of my identity and sources of my inspiration includes nerdy and quirky love of horror games, awesome and fantastic animated cartoons, animes and comics of all genres, and my continuing practice of martial arts. These are the things that make me Sean and feed into my art the most. The games and shows showed me that it was possible to make awesome stuff and the martial arts gives me the dedication and a constant source of reference for dynamic and fun choreography and such.
So now I am making animation and other art to tell stories that I would wanna see both now, but also what would young Sean enjoy? I constantly look at things as what can be enjoyed by both the old and young. All the things that held my interest as a kid and I still love today are big influences on me, action and fight scenes. Because they are like conversations but told all through action. And horror because it feels like the most raw form of emotion and reaction. And kids need to learn to be scared cuz things ARE scary! Not to mention to me it just feels extremely ripe for injecting personal conflict stuff. Also, I just love making stuff weird!!!! But all this serious, action packed and spooky stuff alone feels overly edgy I think. So I always want to inject life, joy and humor.
In the end what I want to do is tell awesome and fun stories. Design fantastic characters, have them do crazy and dynamic stuff all to tell a story with spooky, fun and action. MY greatest goal is to have people see the things I make and enjoy it but also get more than just a fun ten minutes. I want to make stories that people feel, love and get something out of. The best thing I think I can give is overcoming the monsters I draw and the villains I animate. I think stories, especially scary stories have always done great at warning, or showing how to beat the monsters. To quote Gilbert K. Chesterton, "fairy tales do not tell children that dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children that dragons can be killed.”
